Our Mission

The mission of the Ironton Metropolitan Housing Authority is to assist low-income families and individuals with safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to improve the quality of their lives.
Our History

In 1937, The Housing Act was established to provide subsidies to improve the living conditions for low-income families. In 1958 many areas within Ironton needed to be cleared, rehabilitated and a goodly number of homes were removed causing families to be displaced due to the construction of the four-lane highway contiguous to the City of Ironton, OH. A reputable group of twenty-seven citizens met to discuss the issue and give their support to the program by a unanimous rising vote. A formal petition was signed on April 18, 1958 to the Ohio State Board of Housing for the establishment of a Metropolitan Housing Authority in Ironton.
